In the past I had lots, but making music with them felt wrong and cheap. I never finished anything. Just procrastinated. I have only been able to produce successfully (make money with) with products I own. In my case, the moral ambiguity led to a lot of stress for me. Now I don't pirate and don't worry about that. I feel like now I take myself seriously, I write and produce better music.
Tl;dr Behaved like a joker. Produced like a joker. Took myself seriously, started making money. I regularly download old games that are hard to find or are for a system I don't have (and aren't available anywhere digitally). That doesn't really hurt the developer which hasn't probably existed in years. However I get all my VST instruments and sample librares legally.
Making them costs money and effort so by pirating them you're stealing. If you can't afford something there are tons of free plugins and instruments available that will do the job well (more so synths than sampled real instruments). What do you already own (cracked or otherwise)? You're gonna need a basic set of tools.
